Predicting the future can be both an industry and an exercise in futility. There are a multitude of magazines, novels, and other media that have tried to give us a picture of what will happen when automation reaches a certain unspecified, pivotal moment — with takes ranging from dystopian to idyllic.
Much has been made of the role that AI can play in all aspects of business (not to mention our everyday lives). Too much. The acronym “AI” has become a standard selling point at every level, whether relevant or not. For that reason, I have hesitated to write about it, not wanting to join an already bloated caravan.
But this is different
However, recent events make it not only necessary to write about it, but to recommend adopting the latest and greatest. Specifically, I’m referring to FileMaker 2024 and its very functional and really quite amazing AI features. Its natural language semantic search capabilities can not only deliver complex search results, but also like data-driven insights, e.g. finding images fitting a description based on their contents alone — no need for text descriptions or tags.
Turning Point
This is a turning point for Claris and FileMaker, and worth paying serious attention to. Beyond the natural language search, there’s also the potential to spot future trends or predict customer needs. We can tailor semantic search to provide the best possible results, geared around a business’s individual demands.
It’s a good thing
So, that AI future so many have tried to predict? It’s not about replacing human ingenuity, but enhancing it, by giving you tools that help you do something familiar in a more natural and productive way. This will empower us to build systems that are smarter, faster, and more intuitive.
The future of small business software isn’t just about storing data—it’s about understanding and using it in smarter ways. At Alchemy, we’re excited to build systems that help our clients stay ahead of the curve. After all, when it comes to AI, the future isn’t just coming—it’s already here.
